At Meridian, we thrive on serving others. While providing great service to our internal and external customers is our primary mission, our spirit of service extends into our local community and is facilitated by our employee-run volunteer Community Outreach Committee. Many Meridianites are pet-parents, and many of the Meridian employees who don't have pets of their own have a soft spot in their hearts for animals. So, it's no surprise that the Meridian Community Outreach Committee voted unanimously in late 2015 to support an initiative to help local animals in need.

Since Fairfax County Government is one of Meridian's largest partners, The Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter, a non-profit organization that supports the Fairfax County Animal Shelter, was a natural place to start. While the Outreach Committee does have a company-sponsored budget, we wanted to do more to raise awareness for the cause among our co-workers, friends and families, rather than just writing a check.

Read on to learn about this outreach initiative, and the story of French Fry — the sweet, disabled dog in need of a forever home, who Meridian was honored to help sponsor.

Meridian Means Service — not just to our thousands of clients, but also to our community.

In 2013 Meridian created our Community Outreach Committee. This team consists of employees from all sectors of the Meridian family and is completely voluntary. The committee meets monthly to discuss at issues and organizations about which we are passionate and decide how best we can serve them. Examples of some of the organizations we have supported include the Children’s National Miracle Network and Cornerstones.

In the beginning of 2015, I brought a group to the table that is personally near and dear to my heart, COPS, which stands for Concerns of Police Survivors. The Maryland Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors is a statewide non-profit organization providing programs and services for the survivors of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in the state of Maryland. Survivors include their family, friends, and co-workers. I am a survivor.
