MFP vs Desktop Printer: Which is better for your office printing needs?

Posted by Robert Bruce on Wed, May 20, 2015

The multifunction printer (MFP) has greatly improved document management, workflow and office efficiencies, but desktop printers can still be found at some workstations. In fact, despite the many technological advantages of the MFP, the desktop printer hasn't completely disappeared from the modern office environment. Document management is complex, and there is no easy, one-size-fits-all solution. Print strategy often involves a hybrid approach that may well include not only desktop printers and strategically placed fps, but an in-house print room or copy center, as well as the occasional outsourced print job.

In this blog post, I'll focus on the decision regarding whether to have only desktop printers, just use multi-functioning devices, or employ a mix of both device types. There are pros and cons for each strategy. Read on to learn about the pros and cons as they relate to each of these 5 key factors:

  1. Features
  2. Initial costs vs recurring costs
  3. Available space and device footprint
  4. Digitizing and networking
  5. Security

Your Biggest Threat to BYOD Security Could Be Your Employees

Posted by Jan Carreon on Tue, Apr 21, 2015

When the cellular phone was first introduced, it served only one purpose — to make and receive phone calls. Over the years, we have watched the device evolve and incorporate more and more features. Its evolution changed the way we communicate with texting, video chatting, and email capabilities. It has replaced everyday items such as watches, calendars, the boom-box, CD/mp3 players, books, and cameras. It’s next victim? The wallet.

A cellular device is arguably a one-stop shop for almost everything, and a necessary tool for professionals today.

Mobile devices are a staple in today’s world, contributing to the rise of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). By now, you are probably well aware of some of its advantages and disadvantages. One of the biggest concerns of BYOD is security, with the largest threat arguably being a company's employees. Here are the ways employees are unintentionally making sensitive work data more vulnerable to a breach.

What Does the New Cybersecurity Bill Mean for SMBs?

Towards the end of 2014, I wrote about the Cybersecuity Information Sharing Act (CISA) and how it would affect privacy. Earlier this month, the bill was passed by the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee, 14-1, in an effort to reinforce cybersecurity and stop breaches from happening in the future.

For individuals, this news may sound alarming. However, for small to mid-sized businesses (SMBs) it may mean a much-needed increased level of prevention against cyberattacks.

A recent blog post, which highlighted the reasons small businesses need cyber liability insurance, mentioned that cybercriminals are accountable for the failure of at least 60% of small businesses who fall victims of cyberattacks. This is why CISA and any other cybersecurity legislation should be on SMB leaders' radar at all times.

Read on to learn more about the controversy behind the bill, the opposing parties, and business implications that small- to mid-sized businesses in DC, VA and MD need to know about.

There is a lot of mystery surrounding the new iPhone 6. As we approach the phone's expected launch date, there are so many rumors about it that it's hard to know what to believe and what not to believe. So I did some in-depth research and came up with a list of the most commonly agreed upon—and realistic—features for the latest version of Apple's flagship phone. These features will not only set it apart from its predecessors, but also seem intended to regain some market share from the iPhone's competition.

A new security bill has been written, or it may just be returning under a different name. CISA seems to have passed in the Senate Intelligence Committee on July 8th with flying colors but it is still to go under President Obama’s review.  If you have made it this far and still don’t know what I am talking about, let me explain what it is and how you could be affected by it.
